Mitt Romney is leading in the most recent polls for the GOP Iowa Caucus. This anomaly can only be attributed to the fact that Iowans are being swept away by good looks and glamour rather than experience, leadership and vision. Rudy Giuliani’s history of cross-dressing will not enter into the equation for Midwestern votes as Iowans are well known for embracing exotic subcultures. Their embrace of a candidate who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a strange mystery religion that baptizes their dead, is perplexing though. Let’s face it; most Americans consider Mormonism one step up from Scientology. I have nothing against LDSer’s in theory, in fact all of the Mormons I have met are decent, hard-working, excessively happy people. Who among us does not love Donny and Marie or remember fondly the comic genius of Billy Barty and Gordon Jump. This country has been built on religious freedom and tolerance of all tenets. Every citizen has the right to worship as they wish but let me speak bluntly, religion matters in a presidential race. Middle America cares if their President belongs to a cult or not. In my humble opinion, refusing to drink coffee is un-American and just plain strange. On the other hand, the practice of transvestitism is far more socially acceptable. Let others argue the merits of each of these candidates experience, their stands on abortion, gay marriage, terrorism and the economy. We all know that Americans really vote on far more important issues, like a candidate’s wife or their willingness to appear on MTV. I say a man who wears full drag, yes; a man that wears magic underwear, no.
